I am currently working on a series of landscapes of the Trent Valley Washlands. This is the area where I live, close to Nottingham. Although it is not a charismatic landscape, it is nevertheless one which is very striking, with its big skies changing colours and dramatic moods. It is potentially vulnerable to change though development such as gravel extraction and urban development, and so I also want to record its character and how it is evolving. Winter flooding also adds drama and dramatic change to these areas. I am using both oils and water colour in my paintings, and exploring how to make prints from some of the images I have made.
The painting shown above is of the River Trent near to Thrumpton, entitled Treespan. It is an oil on canvas, made in 2022, 50cm x 80cm.
Other paintings from the Trent Valley Washland Series are shown on the Landscape Gallery Page.
